What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check in from 2pm and check out is 12.30. Please note our gates are locked at 9pm.

Anything special I should pack for the children?

Make sure you have enough spare warm clothes, especially for night time. The children are usually happy to have free play when the weather is good, making mud pies, roasting marshmallows or having a paddle in the river with their parents – so the appropriate clothing is what’s most important. For the evening or if the weather is not so good, some books or board games are great to have for a family night in the tipi. If they play an instrument, why not bring it along for the sing-song around the camp fire.

What  can we do once we get there?

There are plenty of things to do once you get here. We have a beautiful loop walk around the site which will bring you through the forest and along by the river then up to our tree tent and hammock camping area. This spot was used to film scenes from the popular TV series, Vikings, who left behind some beautiful tree carvings.

The pebble beach is very popular to sit and while away some time, listening to the sounds of nature all around. If you are feeling a bit adventurous and weather permitting, you may even enjoy a dip in the Avonmore river.

The site is situated in a privately owned woodland, exclusively used by Tipi Adventures, ensuring an uninterrupted nature experience, away from our ‘busy’ world. The minute you step foot into the grounds, you will be struck by the natural beauty of the area and an aura of peace will descend upon you. Our wilderness site is perfect for those who want to get back to nature, take time out from our busy lives and have a real grounding experience.

We also offer a variety of courses, workshops & activities. Click here for more info

A Note about Ticks

Tick bites can be prevented by:

  • wearing long trousers, long sleeved shirt and shoes
  • wearing a hat and tucking in hair
  • using an insect repellent (preferably containing DEET)
  • checking skin, hair and warm skin folds (especially the neck and scalp of children) for ticks, after a day out
  • checking for ticks and removing any from your pets/ clothing/ outdoor gear
  • removing any ticks and consulting with a GP if symptoms develop.

Ticks will bite adult humans most commonly on the legs and the arms. But they can bite on any part of the body, especially warm and sweaty parts of the body not covered by clothing. In children, ticks are most likely to bite around the head and neck. These are the areas to cover up and protect. These are also the areas to check following time spent outdoors. You can check yourself and your children during the day.

Hints & tips

  • On entering your tipi, you will be shown how to operate the top hat as part of the ventilation system and the options you have with the door. Take off your shoes once you enter the tipi and place them inside the door.
  • When opening the zip, open it fully to avoid catching your hair or clothing in the zipper. Please ensure that the material does not get caught when opening and closing the zip. To tie back the
fly screen or the main door, use a simple knot like a bow for easy tying and untying.
  • Inside the tipi, avoid having anything leaning against the outer skin of the tipi as this can cause water or dampness to seep through.
  • Do not push or pull on the centre pole - remember this is the only support holding up your tipi!
  • Traditionally, people sleep with their feet meeting in the centre with no airbeds, however you can lay the airbeds out to your own requirements.
  • It is important that the entrance is not blocked by anyone sleeping in front of it.
  • You can eat snacks inside your tipi but I suggest you clean up afterwards; you don't want to unnecessarily attract creepy crawlies in to enjoy a food feast on your floor!
  • Rubbish: We ask all our guests to dispose of all their rubbish properly in the designated areas. We have both recycling & non-recycling bins. We kindly ask guests to please dispose of their empty bottles to the nearest bottle bank in Rathdrum.
  • Noise Disturbance: We don't want to stop you having a good time, but please remember your tipi neighbours and other guests staying in the park. We have a no noise rule from 9pm, lights out by 11pm and all fires completely doused by 12.
  • Please Note: Strictly no smoking, cooking, use of candles or any naked flame inside the tipis.
  • Although we love animals, there are No Pets allowed inside the tipis.
  • Please take care when staying in your Tipi. You are responsible and liable for any breakages or damages which you cause to the tipi or equipment. We ask that you do report any incidents when they occur.
  • We hope you enjoy your stay with Tipi Adventures. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to
    ask one of our staff.

Testimonials

A piece of paradise,
on our doorstep!

Great day with the family in the Wicklow woodlands. The views are stunning and the surroundings very relaxing. The boys 11 and 9 loved it and learned so much from Ed and Matthew who were not only very patient with the kids they made learning fun. It was very enjoyable day and I would highly recommend families to experience this beautiful part of Ireland. We will definitely go for a second visit this summer.
