A 2 day programme involving theory, practical, demos and 2 nights camping in the woods. Develop skills in a variety of subjects and disciplines that will enrich you and enable you feel comfortable, confident and prepared when out in nature.  This programme will also give you a better understanding of the flora and fauna and appreciation of the environment around you. A good foundation to ethical wild camping.

Catering: 2 Breakfast, 2 lunch & 1 Evening meal with Tea & coffee.

Camping (own equipment, i.e. small tent, max size 2-man or camping hammock). Alternatively, we have tipis, hammocks & tree tents for hire.

A 2 day programme involving theory, practical, demos and 2 nights camping in the woods at our private wilderness site. The programme will be held at our sheltered workshop area along the banks of the river Avonmore and includes breakfast, lunch and evening meals.

Develop skills in a variety of subjects and disciplines that will enrich you and enable you feel comfortable, confident and prepared when out in nature.  This programme will also give you a better understanding of the flora and fauna and appreciation of the environment around you. A good foundation to ethical wild camping.

Knife & Saw

Safe use of sharps (demonstration)
Maintaining your equipment
Natural and man-made tinder
Making char cloth

Fire

Harvesting and processing fuel
Choosing a safe location for your fire
Making feather sticks
Making a flame/ Methods (natural flint and steel)
Fire Lays
Fire Reflectors
Fire Safety - Leave No Trace

Shelter

Choosing an ideal place to camp
Modern set up options for tarps and knots used
Hammock set up options/ knots used
Debris shelters and thermal walls

Food & Water

Importance of water and the human body
Making water safe to drink
- Filtering water - example of improvised and modern filter systems
- Methods of water purification
Preparation and cooking fish over the fire
Making and cooking bread over your campfire.

Trees & Plants

Identify trees in your location and outline properties and uses (5)
Identify plants in your location and outline properties and uses (5)

Crafts

Tinder box - natural and man-made materials.

Making natural cordage using nettles/ inner bark
Bush-craft chair (tripod & sack)

Schedule:

Camp set up Fri afternoon/ evening.
Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm
Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm finish
Evening practice sessions under shelter and around the fire

Special Note: In Cooperation with Woodcraft School UK, our Natural Living Skills programmes will give people an insight and understanding of some outdoor skills. Programme content is based on the Woodcraft School accredited courses which are certified by NCFE UK.
These programmes are suitable for young and old alike providing a solid foundation to continue and do the accredited courses if they wish to obtain a certificate.
